[EDIT #2 - We've just found out that having prints with lots of colours or gradients is stupidly extortionate so could you folk please use as little as possible? I know it's really annoying and I'm pissed off about it but nothing much can be done to save it.]
Wayhay! At last everything has been cleared and I can finally talk about it and let you all know what this is about. This may be long but stick in there kids! It just might be worth it.
Righto, I'm the head of marketing for Bradfords student radio station RamAir (the first and longest running student radio station in the UK)and we are having a complete and very well deserved TOTAL REVAMP!
So what I'm running about doing over the summer holidays is making sure that the marketing side is all nice and new, fresh and most of all varied! There are loads of different genre of shows on the station from pop, ska, rock, metal, rap, gaming and technology, comedy, dance, r'n'b, garage...the list goes on. So I need to market all of this in very fun ways and what's better than t-shirts?
At the moment we have really horrible polo shirts with only text on and they suck. The idea for the new ones is to be vibrant, available on different colours (y'know...the normal base colours...maybe some fun colours if we can get away with it) and generally just fun looking and cool. So basically you're designing something that you'd be more than happy to wear.
You can pretty much do what you want as long as you have graphics on one side of the shirt and text on the other side advertising the station. It doesn't matter about creating the side with text at the moment so don't bother.
So yes, things you need to know when designing:
- The current (fugly) website - [link] (so you can do some research).
- The station is called RamAir, you can play on the name if you want...the most obvious would be to stick a ram in there. I'm not to keen on this idea but if you can draw a really amazing looking ram then I'm all for it
- If you can't think of anything just remember what you're designing for and what comes with the image...CD's, cassetes, headphones, mixing deck, vinyls etc.
- You don't need the name of the station on the front because it'll be on the back but feel free to have it there if you want to.
- Design something that you'd be happy wearing and that you think other folk from 18 to 20 something would be happy with too.
- Any style is great. Be as messy or tidy as you want.
- Don't be scared to bring humour, cheekiness or controversy into the designs.
- Some of the execs seem to love total cheese so if you're into that then it's good.
- You can design for a certain type of genre of music. They all have their own general imagery.
- Be as colouful or desaturated as you like. We mainly want colourful fun/happy looking things but I'll never turn down ANYTHING desaturated and strange.
- In theory the design on the front could have nothing to do with the station...it could just be something that looks cool on a shirt.
- Go crazy and have fun with it!
- Once you've finished a design don't upload it to dA, send me a not and I'll give you my email address.
So that's all I can think of at the moment. I hope anyone who has a go at designing shirts has lots of fun doing it!
If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment. This is still open to EVERYONE! If you think I haven't answered any questions or if you're confused about something just let me know (leave a comment, notes confuse me).
P.S. If anyone wants to have a go at designing the new RamAir official logo leave a comment and I'll send you the brief in a note (it's too big to put up here).

Devious Comments

I look forward to your design

I hope you noticed the latest update about colours, sadly we can't have too many because of printing costs but you could always use two or three or just do whatever you like and have a toned down version that way if we make money from events we can print nicer shirts in future!
